Tri-State Speech & Debate
The Tri-State Debate League is a community of committed educators curating high-quality middle and high school tournaments across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Premier venues, experienced and academically focused judges, and awards worth competing for.
What We Do
TSDL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to growing accessible, high-quality competitive debate. We run tournaments, develop judges, and provide the resources coaches and competitors need to succeed.
Premier settings, experienced and academically focused judges, unique and impressive awards, and tightly run schedules.
Our tournaments give programs and debaters a local option to sharpen their skills and advance toward national circuit success.
From entry to results, we handle the logistics so programs can focus on coaching.
Our Events
Whether a student argues policy plans, ethical frameworks, current events, or legislation, there's a place for them in the league.
Two-on-two, evidence-driven debate over a year-long policy resolution. Open and Novice.
One-on-one debate centered on values and ethical frameworks. Open and Novice.
Partner debate on current events, argued for a general audience. Open and Novice.
Legislative debate simulating the U.S. Congress. Offered in the Open division.
Beyond Competition
TSDL tournaments feature instructional tutorials and lectures from some of the best collegiate debaters, instructors, and coaches in the country. These are the same educators who teach at expensive summer debate institutes. We bring their lessons to the tournament, at no added cost.
The league fosters mutual support and professional development among coaches. League directors offer instructional training and seminars on tournament logistics, Tabroom management, and the full range of speech and debate coaching competencies.
The Flagship Event
The Championship is the culmination of the season — the region's strongest entries across every format, competing over a single weekend for the league's top honors.
Registration, schedules, and entries are managed on Tabroom. Coaches can view fields, enter students, and track results in one place.
