TSDL is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs competitive middle and high school speech and debate across the New York metro area. We curate high-quality tournaments at premier venues, with experienced and academically focused judges and awards worth competing for.
What formats do you offer?
Four debate formats: Cross-Examination (Policy), Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate. Most are offered in both Open and Novice divisions; Congressional Debate is offered in the Open division.
Who can compete?
Middle and high school programs across the region. New schools are welcome, and our novice divisions are built for students who are just getting started. If you are unsure whether your program is a fit, reach out and we will help.
How do we register for a tournament?
Registration and entries are managed on Tabroom. Coaches can view fields, enter students, and track results in one place at tsdlchamps.tabroom.com. Each tournament posts its schedule and details there.
Do we need to bring judges?
Most tournaments have judge obligations tied to the number of entries a school brings. The specific requirement for each event is posted with that tournament's registration on Tabroom. New and experienced judges are always welcome.
What does it cost to enter?
Entry fees vary by tournament and are listed on each event's Tabroom page. As a nonprofit, we work to keep fees affordable and reinvest them directly into the activity, including venues, judging, and awards.
Are there novice divisions?
Yes. We run strong novice divisions in most formats so newer debaters can compete against peers at their level and build experience before entering Open.
What is the TSDL Championship?
The Championship is our flagship, season-ending event, bringing together the region's strongest entries across every format for the league's top honors. See the Circuit page for more on the season and the Championship.
How can a new school or coach get involved?
We love welcoming new programs. Email [email protected] and we will help you get set up on Tabroom, understand the formats, and plan your first tournaments.
Can I judge or volunteer?
Absolutely. The league runs on a community of coaches, judges, and volunteers. Whether you are an experienced judge or new to the activity, we would love to have you. Reach out through our Resources page or by email.
Is TSDL a nonprofit, and are donations tax-deductible?
TSDL is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit. Eligible contributions may be tax-deductible. You can support the league through our donation page, and you can email us for our EIN and giving details.
